Shabbat

“More than Israel has kept Shabbat, Shabbat has kept Israel” – Ahad Ha’am

Inspired Shabbat services are at the heart of Main Line Reform Temple and are designed to be entirely participatory and personal, using ancient liturgy and soulful music as an essential, but also dynamic framework. Whether it’s our meaningful weekly Shabbat minyanim or our wide variety of special Shabbat services, there is an inspirational moment waiting for you at MLRT.

Friday Night Shabbat Services

We bring in the spirit of Shabbat with song, joy, and a warm and inclusive community, led by Rabbi Geri Newburge, Rabbi Eric Mollo, Cantor Faryn Rudnick, Rabbi Kleinman, and Ross M. Levy with Dr. Ari Sussman and our choirs.

We are thrilled to have multi-access services all summer long. We hope you will join us in whatever way you feel safe and comfortable, whether it is in person or virtually. The service will be streamed on Livestream. We typically begin at 6:30 pm but please refer to the calendar for Shabbat services times each week.

Family Shabbat Service

Students in each grade of our Religious School have the opportunity to participate in this monthly service, which often includes our Junior Jammers youth choir. Plan on arriving at 6:00 pm for wine and cheese/milk and cookies before welcoming Shabbat at 6:30 pm.

ECE Simchat Shabbat Services

Geared towards our youngest congregants, from toddlers to elementary school age and their families, this fun, warm, and accessible monthly Shabbat experience is completed by a delicious dinner! Connect with other families and celebrate Shabbat together throughout the year.

Saturday Shabbat Services

Our Saturday morning services, led by Rabbi Geri Newburge, Rabbi Eric Mollo, Cantor Faryn Rudnick, with Dr. Ari Sussman and our choirs, are a blend of music, learning, worship and celebration.

Shabbat Day begins with Torah Study at 9:00 am where we discuss the Parsha, or weekly Torah portion, and learn about its context and history. The Chapel Service continues at 10:00 am and concludes by 11:00 am with a light Kiddush reception.

We celebrate our B’nai Mitzvah families in the Morganroth Sanctuary with either a 10:30 am Morning Service or 5:00 pm Mincha Service. Celebrating this special traditional rite of passage is an exciting time for our children, their families, and our congregational family. B’nai Mitzvah may read Torah, Haftarah, and lead portions of the service according to their abilities.

The Memorial Scrolls Trust has allocated Czech scrolls to synagogues and organisations around the world. The Czech scrolls are survivors and silent witnesses. They represent not only the lost communities of Bohemia and Moravia, but all those who perished in the Shoah. The MST #852 Torah was brought to Main Line Reform Temple by Marion and Bernard Wilen (z”l) in honor of their 60th wedding anniversary, ensuring that the legacy MST #852 endures, although the unknown community it once served is no more.
